#OplanBangonSugbo Relief Goods Distributed

CEBU, Philippines - Last January 26, 2022, LIGTAS Philippines, in collaboration with REAVO Cebu Chapter, REAVO Junior Responders - Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Chapter, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Leaders' Council and Eagles' Council, the Boy Scouts of the Philippines - Cebu Council Catholic Committee, and other agencies and partners distributed the first batch of relief goods for #OplanBangonSugbo.

Relief Goods were distributed to 50 families in Brgy. Simala, Sibonga, in the Southern part of Cebu. The team arrived via convoy and distributed the goods to the beneficiaries at Sitio Pungtod, which was identified as the most devastated and damaged area in the barangay because of the onslaught of Typhoon Odette.  These relief efforts were made possible by private donations from our benefactors.

Typhoon Odette has displaced some hundreds of families in the barangay, some with damaged or roofless homes to go back to. The fishing boats of residents were also heavily damaged, which serve as one of the major sources of livelihood for the people of Simala. 

"On Behalf of Ligtas Philippines, we would like to thank our benefactors for their generosity in helping us reach these communities. Your generosity and kindness helped made the Christmas and New Year Celebrations of these persons much more brighter," the National Director said in a statement. 

LIGTAS Philippines will be conducting a second round of distributions to the Southern part of Cebu. Inclusive of the #OplanBangonSugbo efforts would also include support of home or location rehabilitation efforts of other stakeholders in Cebu. 

LIGTAS is a Scout-led community safety initiative that promotes the safety, wellness, and cooperation of the members of the community. LIGTAS's flagship project, LIGTAS At Your Fingertips (or the creation of the LIGTAS App), is an made available for the community. The initiative also has other ongoing community safety initiatives such as Oplan Bayanihan, Youth Task Force Ligtas, the launch of LIGTAS Stories, and the Breath of Life Project. - @tagaLigtasPH
